5 Summer Haircare Tips for Blondes

12 06 summer blonde haircare tips colourAs stylists, you know that some hair types are more vulnerable to the elements than others. As summer starts up, Tom Porter, founder and president of Malibu C, shares what you need to know about your blonde clients’ summer hair conditions.

1. Remind clients to avoid chlorine.

After frequent dips in the pool, tonality in blonde hair begins to dull and look muddy. This is especially the case when the chlorine pool water contains calcium of over 100ppm.

2. Blonde is an absorber.

Compared to brunettes, blonde hair tends to absorb more pool chemicals, which causes hair to fall in clumps rather than individual, flowing strands.

3. How hard is your water?

Highlights will fade as a result of shampooing in hard water, which leaves a filmy buildup that refracts light and dulls any luster.

4. Beware the hot tub.

Hot tubs often contain copper sulfate to control any algae, but this red metal reacts with blonde hair to give off an odd green or ashy discolouration.

5. Keep blonde locks from drying out.

Blonde hair tends to bond with minerals such as iron, and once oxidized by air, sun and water, turns hair into a brassy or orange colour.

Many of these blonde stressors can be combated with treatments designed to remove chemicals and protect strands, such as Malibu C’s Blondes Natural Wellness Treatment. It uses 100% vegan ingredients and removes hard-the-budge chemical buildup. Use the shampoo, conditioner and treatment help to guard against environmental toxins and boosts scalp health and shine.
