Who: Education from Goldwell special guest Nick Arrojo and his team, Goldwell creative team members Michelle Pargee, Timothy Switzer, Rodica Hristu, Dale Seeman, Sylvain Bellerose and KMS California creative team members Edwin Johnston and Michael Crispel.

When & Where: June 17 & 18 in Niagara Falls, Ont. (If you’re on the West Coast, check out Hairvolution West this weekend at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC.)

Highlights:

-Here’s your answer for clients who are asking about ammonia-free colour. Switzer and Hristu introduced the audience to Nectaya, a new ammonia-free, nurturing colour that belongs to the TopChic family. With a one-to-one mixing process, it offers a 20 per cent increase in hair quality and is 100 per cent fragrance free.

-Johnston and Crispel mixed cutting education with retail tips. From Johnston: “Where do stylists fail with retail? They recommend the wrong products because they’re not listening to the client and they sell the same product that they’re comfortable with and they sell it to everyone.” The solution? Ask the right questions. What look is your client trying to achieve: straight, textured, full?

-From motivational speak and stylist Charles Marcus: “Book less and charge more. Statistics tell us that clients are willing to pay more for better service and more attention.”

-From Nick Arrojo on working hard: “ In one of my busiest years, I did $750,000 in haircuts and $200,000 in retail. I didn’t work really hard once I got to that point; I worked really hard to get to that point.”
