Teams of hairdressers and makeup artists from Aveda concept salons put their ingenuity to the test at Aveda’s Catwalks for Water on Sept. 15 at Cinema Lounge in Toronto. Teams created looks using the “Reduce, reuse, restyle” mantra—meaning they only used recycled or discarded materials. That’s right: some of these looks were pretty much made from garbage—and you can’t really tell from the photos!
Here are some of our favorite styles from the show. Maybe they’ll inspire you to be thrifty at your next photo shoot?

The finalists in the Student and Salon categories (chosen by a panel of judges including yours truly) got to take home prizes like Aveda Master Jam tickets, education vouchers, and FIXXrx tools. Proceeds from ticket sales and fundraising efforts went to Aveda’s Earth Month partner WaterCan, a Canadian charity dedicated to helping the world’s poorest people have access to clean water. Congratulations to the winners!
