Giving back is often a big part of owning a great salon. (Did you know that several winners of the Salon Business Excellence Award and Interior Design Award have also won the John Steinberg Award for Community Service?)
If you’ve been thinking about entering but you’re not sure if you should, here are our top three reasons why you should do it this year.
1. You’ll be in good company.
The Community Service award was renamed The John Steinberg Award for Community Service last year, in honour of the iconic “Rebel of Rosedale,” who was an outrageous, controversial and very talented hairstylist. But as much as he was a revolutionary, John also had a huge heart. One of his most successful endeavors was the John Steinberg Pool Tournament, which he worked on with Donna Lee Langton. The tournament raised thousands of dollars over the years for Princess Margaret Hospital. This was just one of the ways John gave back.
Winning this award is an honour that associates you with an incredible artist and mentor, who was a part of the hairstyling community for more than 50 years.
2. You’ll spread the word about a good cause.
Have you created a great charity event or do you contribute to a great cause? Winning this national prize not only sheds a light on the event itself for publicity purposes, but also on the giving nature of hairdressers in general.
3. It’s really, really easy.
The John Steinberg Community Service award does not require you to submit a lot of business information to enter. Simply fill out the one-page form with the required information about your community service activities.
