Attitude and undone elegance reigned supreme on the Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week runways. The fall/winter 2013 fashions were perfectly complemented by hairstyles created by the Redken team, led by Jorge Joao. Here are four trends to take into the salon to inspire your team and clients.
1. Bohemian grunge at Chloe Comme Parris…
Not your traditionally-worn braids, rigid plaits are deconstructed and the rebel factor dialled up. This look is all about having natural movement with a bit of attitude using Redken Fabricate 03 and Guts 10. Take the entire left side of the head into a French braid, then secured into a long ponytail. To add character, strands were pulled from the braid and two smaller sections of hair were braided tightly to fall over the French braid. On the right side of the head, braid a piece of the fringe to keep hair out of the face, and braid two more small braids around the head. Finish by pulling sections of hair into a spiral wrap with a 1” iron, finishing with Control Addict 28
2. Soft, undone texture at Laura Siegel…
Cosmopolitan and naturally disheveled, the look is very wearable for everyday sophistication. Dry hair is prepped with a texturizer, Redken Fabricate 03. Spray hair with a thermal protector, Iron Shape 11 and curl loose sections with a 1.5” iron, alternating the direction of each section and finish with Fashion Work 12.
3. Big city nights at Korhani…
Sleek and elegant, the updo from Korhani is romantic and classy. To start creating this look, add texture to hair with Redken Fabricate 03, then take a horseshoe section of hair on the top of the head and tighten the bottom section of hair into a low chignon. Blowdry the horseshoe section completely forward, and set with a 1.25” curling iron in front of the eye. Twist hair back and wrap into the chignon, securing with Redken Control Addict 28 and Shine Flash 02.
4. Wet/dry texture play at Mackage…
The wet look has circulated recent fashion week runways, and is back again in a unique updo style blended with dry texture. To create the look, blow dry hair back with Redken Guts 10. Create a thin horseshoe section on the top of the head and blow dry sides tightly using Hot Sets 22. Lastly, backcomb the horseshoe section to create volume, and smooth the surface with a comb, blending into the sides using Fashion Work 12.
