Now that the holidays are over, beauty professionals can look forward to the next item on their agenda—the International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) from January 26 to 28. Did we mention that it’s in Long Beach, California?
With three stages dedicated to education and hands-on classes, here’s a recommended list of the ones attendees shouldn’t miss.
1. Faatemah Ampey – RetroEvolution stage presentation
Overview: This presentation celebrates classic hairstyles and silhouettes. Attendees will learn how to translate retro styles, including pompadours and pincurls, into bridal and special occasion hair.

2. Lisa Yamasaki – Tokyo Collection 2013 stage presentation
Overview: This two part presentation, featuring Lisa Yamasaki’s creative hair art of “Deep Space,” brings the hottest Tokyo hair and fashion trends together with special guest Allen Edwards.
Time: Sunday, January 27 from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m., Center Stage
Monday, January 28 from 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. Center Stage

3. Martin Parsons – The Magic of Long Hair stage presentation
Overview: This fashion forward presentation features multiple looks that can be easily reproduced in a salon within minutes. Attendees will be inspired to increase new services in their own salons.

4. Hiroshi Kitamura – Spiral Stroke Cut/Tribute to Vidal Sassoon class
Overview: This two-part advanced class will teach attendees how to texturize long layered hair using Kitamura’s “spiral stroke” technique. Kitamura will teach the “5 Point” haircut made famous by his mentor and friend, Vidal Sassoon.

5. Steve Elias – The Bombshell class
Overview: Elias will teach attendees the basics to create some of the silver screen’s most iconic looks, including waves, updos and bouffants.
