Ted Gibson is one busy hairdresser. He cuts and styles hair for some of Hollywood’s most famous stars, held a spot on TLC’s hit show What Not To Wear for several seasons, has his own advanced academy, created a product line and owns several upscale salons around the U.S.
We caught up with Gibson and asked a few questions to learn more about what drives him as a hairstylist.
Top trend predictions for 2013?
Ombre is going out. Gradation of colour is great, but ombre is passé. Two toned is too much.
Best colour advice?
Know your formulations and learn from the best. That’s the reason why I’m not a colourist. I understand shape, but I don’t understand colour theory, and I think most hairdressers are better at one or the other.
Secret Weapon?
Ted Gibson Beautiful Hold Hair Spray because it’s a working hairspray. I use it on every client that I do and every celebrity.
Strangest tip or piece of hairstyling advice you’ve ever heard or used?
You can use gelatin as a hair strengthener.
Personal mantra?
Beauty is individual.
Mentor?
Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda, where I worked for seven years. My beauty icon is Dianna Ross.
