Hairstylists, beauty pros and students gathered at the Enercare Centre for the inaugural Beauty X show on October 22nd and 23rd.
The two-day event featured stage presentations and demonstrations, classes and seminars, as well as hair competitions for stylists, barbers and makeup artists.
The main stage was hosted by Toronto-based hairstylist (and this year’s Contessa Awards co-host!) Palma N’Sheluvzit.
Celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson was this year’s headliner, who showcased his tips and tricks for editorial hairstyling and how to select the right haircuts to complement a client’s face shape. He also shared some insights into career possibilities available to passionate hairstylists and emphasized the importance of having strong foundational skills.
Peter Gosling, a Toronto-based barber and the owner of Glassbox Barbershop, also took the stage to share his advice on growing a barbering business and working with different hair textures.
While the main stage presentations were underway, other education seminars and classes were held in breakout rooms. The Oriac Group and Artego Canada’s artistic director, Marlo Steenman, walked attendees through some of her top hair colouring tips, including how to create a chunky, ’90s inspired look.
The milk_shake team, including their artistic director, Gerard Caruso, as well as artist, Charlene Main, walked attendees through how to cut and style two variations of a shag.
Sola Salon Studios also hosted seminars featuring Ontario-based independent hairstylists who offered their candid insights into being a successful independent business owner.
On day two of the event, Toronto-based salon owner and Moroccanoil global color ambassador, Lisa Dinh, took to the main stage to share tips on express colour services and creative techniques using just 15 foils. Andis North American artistic lead, Kenny Duncan, also emphasized the importance of working smarter and not harder with efficient barbering tips.
Salon S.O.S founder, Scott Moon, led classes focusing on how to grow in-salon retail and customer loyalty.
On both days of the event, attendees also had the opportunity to browse a range of exhibitor booths from brands such as Andis, Artègo, Boss Caddi, Kasho, Kwickway, Lakmé, milk_shake, Oriac, Perlon, Pivot Point, Revive 7, Sam Villa, Sutra Beauty, Wahl, and even us, Salon, among others.
