With the rise of social media, celebrities are able to influence hair trends as quickly as Instagram feeds scroll, and many clients come into the salon and turn to you for celeb-inspired tresses. This year we saw celebrities returning to low-maintenance looks with both colour and styles.
Growing it out
Last year was all about blunt cuts and bobs, but 2015 saw a rise in the long bob, mid-length manes and shaggy cuts that are easy to manage. Both Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Katie Holmes chose to change their signature long locks into “lobs.” This low-maintenance style is easy to grow out and means fewer trips to the salon for your client, instead of going in for a chop every few weeks to keep those ends blunt.
Neutrals
We’ve seen a lot of colour recently ranging from the bold brights to pretty platinums and pastels on Kylie Jenner and Kelly Osbourne, but there’s been a resurgence of natural-coloured locks. We’re talking about the neutral palettes for soft ombré, balayage, tortoise shells, brondes and greys that Cara Delevigne, Blake Lively and Khloé Kardashian have been wearing. By mixing balayage and lowlights, warm and ashy tones, and greys ranging from pastel metallics to a smoky ash, the “I woke up like this,” look is here to stay.
Return to the classics
More and more celebs are foregoing fussy hair and walking the red carpet in simple off-centre parts and classic updos. Both Reese Witherspoon Jared Leto rocked the red carpet with simple centre parts alongside Academy Award winner Julianne Moore, who donned a sleek chignon the night she took home her Oscar.
