Advanced Nail Art with LCN Shades of the Desert

Alyson Ertell, education and events coordinator for LCN shares trendy nail art using the new LCN Shades of the Desert collection, with an optional additional rhinestone design. Shades of the Desert is inspired by the exotic, strong and feminine—perfect for summer nail designs—and available in polish, colour gel, Recolution soak-off gel polish and X-Tame light-cured polish systems.

You’ll Need

  • All four colour gel shades in the LCN Shades of the Desert collection
  • LCN Rhinestones #359 Blue Oasis
  • LCN One Component Resin Cosmiq
  • LCN Ultra Shine
  • LCN Bonder
  • LCN Cleaner
  • LCN Super Shine Finish Cleaner
  • Round Brush
  • Spot ‘n’ Swirl tool
  • Striping Brush
  • LCN Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light

Step 1

File and buff the nails, removing all shine. Clean off dust and debris with a dust brush and clean with LCN Cleaner.

Step 2

Apply a thin layer of Bonder. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light.

Step 3

Apply a coat of One Component Resin Cosmiq to the nail tip, extending to encase the free edge. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light.

Step 4

Create and build the C-curve with One Coponent Cosmiq, ensuring the application is as smooth as possible. Apply Cosmiq thinly along the perimeter of the nail and free edge. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light.

Step 5

File nails into shape and clean with LCN Cleaner.

Step 6

Apply #360 Pink Pepper Colour Gel from the Shades of Desert Trend collection over the entire nail, be sure to wrap the free edge. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light. Repeat, with a second coat.

Step 7

Using a Spot ‘n’ Swirl tool, apply a thin stripe of #359 Blue Oasis Gel onto the nail. Do not cure.

Step 8

Apply a thin line of #361 Hot Chili Colour Gel beside the Blue Oasis, followed by a thin line of #358 Fiery Cumin Colour Gel beside Hot Chili. Do not cure.

Step 9

Using a striping brush, drag the brush across the lines of the uncured gel to create a horizontal striping design. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light.

Step 10

Apply a generous coat of Ultra Shine to the nails, and proceed to Step 14 if not omitting the rhinestone design.

Bonus rhinestone design: 

Step 11

Apply a thin coat of Ultra Shine over the nail. Pick up Rhinestone #359 Blue Oasis using a nail art brush with a small amount of Ultra Shine on the tip. Place the rhinestones in the desired pattern and flash cure to set.

Step 12

Apply a generous coat of Ultra Shine over the entire nail and rhinestones, which will help secure the rhinestones. Cure for two minutes in a tunnel light unit, or cure for 60 seconds in a Supreme UV Light or SKYPro LED light.

Step 13

Finish with LCN Super Shine Finish Cleaner to remove the final dispersion film and nourish the cuticles, all in one step. Alternatively, wipe off the final dispersion film with a dry cotton swab.
