Amidst all the chaos surrounding COVID-19, American Crew is shining a positive light on creativity with the announcement of the five global winners of the 2020 All-Star Challenge!
This annual photo-based competition puts a spotlight on barbers and men’s hairstylists showcasing their cutting-edge techniques and originality, and is judged on five competencies:
Barbering: Mastery of clipper skills, fading and shaving, High Texture: Ability to display technical skills, shape, and control whilst working with highly textured hair, Length: Excellence in cutting and styling hair with length while maintaining a masculine edge, Retro: Ability to recreate a classic cut from the past, Trend: Ability to be creative and think ahead by producing a shape or style that could become a trend.
“The level of artistry that was displayed in this year’s All-Star Challenge showcases the way the industry is evolving and diversifying,” said David Raccuglia, founder of American Crew. “Our five winners brought forth their individual backgrounds, grooming specialties, cultures, and visions to life in a way that truly excited the Global Committee.”
From 29 country winners, which included Canada’s very own Sandra Perovic from Vancouver, American Crew’s Global Committee chose their top five favourite entries, which showcased the highest level of skill and creativity. The five global winners will receive $5,000 and a trip to Los Angeles to participate in an editorial photo shoot directed and shot by Raccuglia.
And the winners are….
Sandra Perovic, Canada: A classic cut with a heavier fade on the sides for an edgy feel.
Luke Munn, Australia: A modern creative cut that features a solid shape, structure and plenty of texture.
Jonathan Pereira, Belgium: A chic & contemporary look for a natural hairstyle with enhanced curls.
Daniil Gochua, Russia: A style inspired by Style For The Road collection using height and texture with a matte finish.
David Da Campo, Switzerland: A perfect blend of volume, texture and lightness for a versatile look for the modern man.
