After months of cold winter temperatures, there’s no better time to help your clients repair and restore their hair with in-salon treatments.
We recently visited the Chatters flagship location in Brampton, Ont. to celebrate the launch of Olaplex in Chatters locations across Canada.
We spoke with celebrity hairstylist and Chatters ambassador, Cindy Duplantis, about the importance of in-salon hair treatments and what she and her clients love most about them. Plus, she shared some quick tips on how (and why) other stylists should think about offering treatments to their clientele.
“During the pandemic, a lot of clients decided to do their own colour at home,” she says. “Now is the time to get our clients to be honest with us about what their hair has been through, so we can help fix what has been done to the hair and help them to fight any damage that has been caused.”
When it comes to deciding what treatment services to offer to your clients, Duplantis recommends keeping it inclusive by picking a brand that carries products for all hair types, colours and textures. “Olaplex addresses a lot of different issues,” she says. “Despite what some may think, their products aren’t just for blondes. Because the products help to repair the hair’s bonds, they’re great for any client who does any kind of colouring or styling ranging from dark browns to blondes, or even to clients who heat-style their hair at home.”
When deciding on which treatment to recommend to her clients, Duplantis says that it always comes down to the consultation. “I like to ask what the client is trying to achieve with their hair, what they tend to struggle with, what their daily haircare routine is, and if their hair has ever been colour treated,” she says. “By asking all of those questions, I get to the bottom of what might be causing my client’s hair damage and I can choose the products accordingly.”
In addition to helping create a more relaxing and luxurious experience for your clients, offering treatments can help them learn more about their hair and how the treatment is helping to address their hair concerns. Plus, creating a customized treatment plan for your clients and pre-booking their appointments can help build loyalty!
PRO TIP: You can offer your client’s in-salon treatments as a stand-alone service, accompany them with a blow-dry, or even as an add-on to their colour or cut.
Having a treatment option available in the salon can help you build a deeper connection with your clients while enabling you to open up the discussion regarding retail products. Discovering what your client’s hair concerns are before the treatment can give you a chance to recommend take-home products that you carry in the salon, as well as the products you used during the treatment. Since many in-salon treatments can also be added to your clients’ at-home haircare routines, treatments can help increase the chances of your clients purchasing the product once they see how it has helped their hair.
