Two super talented Canadian hairstylists took home prizes amongst nine finalists at the live finale of Sebastian Professional’s What’s Next Awards 2016, an exciting professional hairstyling event that took place on Sunday, February 21, at the Ice Palace Studios in Miami.
John-Paul Colombo, from HairAfter salon in Aurora, ON (also a Contessa winner a few years back!) took home the prize in the Affiliated Talent category, and Safiya Aboaen, from HL Cuts Above salon in Niagara Falls, won in the Student category. Damaris Earlewine, from Palm Springs, California, won the Professional category.
“Winning the Sebastian What’s Next awards means to me that inspiration and creativity are endless. There may be tough times, but the difficulties you face will make you more determined and inspired to achieve your goals. Dream big, set goals and take action!!”, says John-Paul Colombo.
The competition took place in front of a live audience of more than 400 and a judging panel including Sebastian Professional Global Art Director Michael Polsinelli; Shay Dempsey, Sebastian Professional Global Art Director; Maggie Mulhern, Modern Salon Beauty and Fashion Editor; Oliver Shortall, What’s Next Awards 2015 Professional Category Winner.
Sebastian Artistic Team
In addition to the live competition and awards, the evening showcased Sebastian Professional Design Team artists Anthony Cole, Daniel DiTommaso, Diva Poulos, Marylle Koken and Omar Antonio who created a power set of iconic looks, creative cuts and technical mastery.
The What’s Next Awards contest encourages hairstylists across North America to create their most fearless hairstyle, inspired by the versatility of the Sebastian Professional fall hair collection Metamorphik. In January 2016, nine finalists were chosen by the What’s Next Awards judges based on the following criteria: suitability for promotional purposes, visual appeal based on hair collection and overall aesthetic to participate in the live competition for the chance to show the world ‘What’s Next.’
