When Roy Jouni, owner of Carte Blanche Haute Coiffure and Spa in Orleans, Ont., set out for Paris on a business trip with Schwarzkopf Professional, he made a point to not visit any salons. It was during a time when his salon was having work done, and he expected to return with fresh interior design inspiration. The result? “I saw a lot of white marble flooring and colourful furniture and wanted to bring a bit of Europe into the salon.” Favouring furniture rather than walls as accents, “everything stands out against white,” from the chairs to flowers to lights. The same resolute vision is what led Jouni on a six-year journey with two salon expansions in the busy RioCan Trinity Crossing mall. Jouni listened to his clients when designing the layout, accommodating his their wishes for quiet and calm by soundproofing the spa and situating it away from the lively salon vibe essential to creative hairstylists. “My clients love it and can come to Carte Blanche for all their beauty needs,” says Jouni, whose salon boasts more than 5,000 clients.
