Beauty professionals gathered at the Rec Room in Toronto on Sunday May 27, 2018 for Créatif, an exciting evening of hair artistry and inspiration hosted by industry leader and hairstylist, Ray Civello.
The event, in support of WaterAid, featured industry artists including Lupe Voss, Charlie Price, Peter Gray, DJ Muldoon and Geno Chapman, who worked their hair magic to create bold and colourful styles live on stage.
“Créatif was born out of the idea that the industry needed more platforms where hairdressers could come together and have fun,” said Ray Civello. “I wanted to do something where people could interact with other artists outside of their group.”
“This event gives talent of all levels the opportunity to work on stage which is great because we get to see some of the best artists in the world working beside people who will be on stage for the first time.”
Working alongside industry artist Peter Gray, Lupe Voss explained that they wanted to create looks that showcased the editorial process of the work they’ve done together.
“We wanted to show a bit of what goes into our photo work by showing some different ways of layering colour to create more dimension,” she said. “I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with young up-and-coming artists and I’m hoping that our looks will inspire people to be more creative.”
Past Contessa winner and Schwarzkopf artist Robin Bacon, was excited to be able to take the stage with her androgynous look created as a tribute to idols from her youth. “I’m excited that all of these artists have gathered in one place to support a great cause. Everyone who is here from different brands is unified as one,” she said. “For tonight’s look, I was inspired by androgynous idols like David Bowie whom I wanted to pay an homage to.”
Guest artist Charlie Price said, “I’ll be creating a bit of a micro fringe as well as another androgynous look with a soft, feminine fringe. I’m most excited to spend time with great artists who are my friends and the fact that I’ll be able to share the stage with artists who will become new friends.”
