In order to bring together a Contessa segment seamlessly, each aspect needs to be well executed. But how do you make such a small part like nails create a big on-stage impact? 3-D flowers, of course. Liliya Leheta and John Nguyen, CND Canada educators, created the show-stopping nails for the Schwarzkopf Professional Flowers segment that blended perfectly with the team’s creative vision without hiding among the roses. Going off of their imaginations and just the theme, the two created the eight sets of nails that would capture the essence of the segment perfectly.
When talking about tying the nails together with the rest of the look for the segment, Ngueyn explains, “This time Paul [Pereira] said, ‘Our theme is flowers—just go ahead and do your thing,’ and then gave us the visuals they were using for the segment.” Leheta explains, “I love flowers, so this was so much easier than other looks in the past because nature gives you all the inspiration that you need,” adding, “I’m not sure how we came up with designs that matched perfectly, but we did.”
Talking to both Leheta and Nguyen, both of them described the lengthy process to create each individual nail. Leheta explains, “we sculpt each petal by hand using liquid and powder acrylic, and blend together CND Additives to create custom colours, then all of the petals are assembled onto the nails to create flowers.” Nguyen adds, “The sets need to be seen from stage, so we give them a lot of length; it’s a long process to create each nail—one set took me about eight hours to finish.”
