If you’re going to Cosmoprof North America this year, make sure you have your tickets lined up for the City of Hope dinner on July 21! This year’s honoree for the Spirit of Life Award is industry legend, George Schaeffer, and the night includes entertainment from special guests Aretha Franklin and Al Green.
Schaeffer’s goal is to raise $5 million for diabetes research, $2.5 million of which he will personally match. Schaeffer will also pay for the Spirit of Life dinner, allowing 100 per cent of the proceeds to go directly to City of Hope.
OPI, which Schaeffer helped build into the worldwide nail company it is today, has also been in on the action, creating a special City of Hope polish collection with a portion of the sales going to the charity. The gala dinner will be help at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Generous by nature, Schaeffer considers a lifetime of philanthropy his greatest accomplishment. Driven by his belief that “giving back is beautiful,” Schaeffer and the Schaeffer Family Foundation have supported for decades many organizations that help fight disease, including the American Heart Association, American Lung Association and breast cancer’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Now, through City of Hope, he has formed the George W. Schaeffer Endowment for Innovation in Diabetes Research to help find new treatments, and possibly one day, a cure for diabetes.
