More than 1,000 hairstylists from around the world descended on Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for a week-long celebration of inspiration and education with Joico.
With a roster of top international hairstylists, including the brand’s global artistic director Vivienne Mackinder and British Hairdresser Award winner Richard Mannah, the week was jammed with artist sessions that incorporated inspirational hairstyling ideas along with innovative techniques that hairstylists were able to take back to their salons.
Joico guest artist Ben Mollin emceed the week-long education event, which kicked off with a focus on high-impact and soft, subtle colour techniques with a lineup of international artists including Canada’s Melissa Duguay and celebrity colourist Denis de Souza. Then, international artists David Murray and Ryan Nicoletti-Dowd showcased close-cropped cutting methods that also highlighted customized colour techniques. Along with technical components, each artist spoke to the importance of communication with your client, highlighting their personal tactics for giving each client a customized service.
As artists, the importance of fostering creativity in and out of your salon is essential, and no one knows this better than Vivienne Mackinder. Her keynote address, Unlock Your Creativity, not only offered inspiring information but Mackinder’s down-to-earth approach meant you walked away with ways you could also inspire creativity for other members of your salon team.
With the impact of social media, an evening panel discussion featured social media influencers, many of whom are celebrity hairstylists, fielding questions about building your brand, along with what they have learned along the way.
In his high-energy and collaborative style, award-winning hairstylist Richard Mannah brought his best in cutting and styling techniques, breaking down looks from his collections and showcasing easy editorial styling methods. Mannah also invited Mark Bustos to the stage to share his passion for building community awareness and providing free haircuts to those in need around the world.
Along with a packed schedule of education, evening events featured a rock ‘n’ roll themed night complete with a live rock band and a white and gold beach party, which rounded out the week.
