Have you actually thought about your goals for 2021? Whether you’re a beginner hairstylist or a seasoned professional, it’s recommended that you set goals to help with maintaining your emotional and mental health. We have a list of goals from Toni&Guy international artistic director and head of education, Cos Sakkas, that hairstylists can try incorporating into their lifestyle.
Considering the past year we’ve had as a community, this may sound very cliche. However it’s always important to look on the positive side and embrace changes as they come. With salons everywhere being shut down, our community was forced to go online. Virtual education has become a great way to stay connected with the hair community and also gain more technical skills as we wait for salons to reopen.
Take Care of your Mental Health
Being separated from our family, friends and clients as we are getting used to the new normal as hairstylists, can be extremely difficult. During these times it’s extremely important to focus on your mental health. Although we are not able to see all of our loved ones face-to-face, using video chats and phone calls is still highly recommended. It’s also recommended to take daily walks and to spend less time in front of your television and smartphone screens.
Use Social Media Wisely
There is so much going on on the internet now that everyone is spending more time inside and on their phones. Social media can be a great way to connect with the people you love while also taking a look at new and inspiring content from all over the world. When using social media be sure to follow people who are truly stretching your creativity and imagination. Sakkas recommends looking outside of the hairstyling world for inspiration and to also limit the time you spend scrolling.
It’s important for hairstylists to stay current and informed on all of the trends that are emerging during this time. When clients are ready to get back into the salons, make sure you’re ready to execute all of the latest trends that will have them feeling fresh and like themselves again.
