We rounded up the top looks from New York Fashion Week (NYFW) that we thought were serious #hairgoals.
The Knotted Ponytail
Featured in the Monse Spring 2019 collection, this look was created by Pasquale Ferrante using amika products.
Get the Look:
- Prep the look by applying Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray throughout the hair, and let it dry naturally.
- Next, apply Plus Size Perfect Body Mousse at the roots through the mid-lengths of the hair.
- Dry using The Accomplice Dryer, and add slight movement to the hair using a medium-sized barrel from The Chameleon 5 Barrel Interchangeable Curling Kit.
- Divide the hair in three large sections: two on the sides and a vertical top section.
- Create a knot with the two side sections, and join with the vertical section to create a low ponytail.
- Wrap the base of the ponytail with a black elastic cord, and secure the look with Fluxus Touchable Hairspray.
Wonder and Whimsy
The metallic nails in the Rodarte Spring/Summer 2019 collection was created by Morgan Taylor lead artist, Eichi Matsunaga.
Get the Look:
- Key polish shades: “Could Have Foiled Me,” “Give Me Gold,” and “No Way Rosé”.
Gel’d and Linear
This look, created for Christopher John Rogers, was created using amika products by amika’s global artistic director, Naeemah LaFond.
Get the Look:
- Spray the back and ends of hair with The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray
- Create linear bends in hair using The Antidote Silk Wrap Styler
- Part hair down the center, and spray the top and sides with water (do not spray the ends)
- Apply firm hold gel generously, and use fine tooth comb to smooth hair down create waves at the hairline
- Next, use a diffuser with the Immortal Power-Life Dryer to dry the look
- Spray the back of the style with Fluxus Touchable Hairspray
- Finish the look by applying Glass Action Universal Elixir on the gelled area
The “Undone” Bun
This effortless look was created by lead stylist for Wella Professionals, Anthony Turner and featured in Prabal Gurung’s SS19 collection.
Get the Look:
- Use Wella Professionals EIMI Extra Volume Mousse at the roots of hair and the use fingers to pull the product through the remainder of the hair. Rough blow-dry with Hot Tools Black Gold Turbo Iconic Dryer, twisting hair to create waves.
- Next, spray Wella Professionals EIMI Ocean Spritz throughout the hair until damp to create matte texture. Blow dry again using Hot Tools Black Gold Turbo Iconic Dryer.
- Once the hair is dry, use a Hot Tools 1” Black Gold Curling Iron to curl a few sections of hair and backcomb the remaining sections ofhair to build volume and rough texture.
- Once dry, spray Wella Professionals EIMI Sugar Lift to add shine and build texture.
- Gather and pull hair into a pony at the low back of head and secure with an elastic.
- Begin to pull out small sections of hair at the hairline to create volume and rough texture on top of the head.
- Next, spilt the pony in half. Use Hot Tools Black Gold XL Flat Iron to tame any unruly pieces. Take the top half, twist hair into a figure 8, and pin the hair at the top and side.
- Twist the remaining half of the pony into a chignon, leaving 1-2 inches of the ends sticking out. Pull out pieces of hair for a messy,undone look.
- Use Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Essential hairspray and set the top of the head and hair twist.
- Finish the look by spraying both Wella Professionals EIMI Sugar Lift and Ocean Spritz to dial up the combination of shiny and matte texture.
The Braided Ponytail
Featured in the Ulla Johnson Spring 2019 collection, this look by Esther Langham was created using amika products.
Get the Look
- Dampen hair and apply the Plus Size Perfect Body Mousse around the hairline. Blow-dry using a flat brush/Mason Pearson to create a smooth hairline.
- Create a center part and create two sections from the crown to behind the ear.
- Using an equal mixture of the Curl Corps Enhancing Gel and the First Base Moisturizing Styling Cream, apply from the roots through the mid shafts of the hair—this will help maintain control of the hair and help create more definition in the finished look.
- Once the product is applied, take the top two sections and tie together to create a knot.
- Create two more sections (leaving a small section of hair out towards the nape), apply the product mixture and create another knot incorporating the hair from the previous sections.
- Create a ponytail with all remaining hair and tie with an elastic band.
- Use the Glass Action Universal Elixir to smooth any flyaways as needed.
- To finish the look, use The Antidote Silk-Wrap Styler and Silken Up Dry Conditioner to create a lived in, smooth texture in the ponytail.
Natural and Polished
This look was created by Wella Professionals global creative director of care and styling and ghd Fashion Week ambassador, Eugene Souleiman for Jemery Scott’s SS19 collection.

Featured at the Zero + Maria Cornejo NYFW show, this look was created by Hot Tools lead stylist, Janelle Chaplin.
Get the Look:
- Prep wet hair with Original Mineral Surf Bomb and spray from midshaft to ends.
- Use the Hot Tools Black Gold Turbo Ionic Salon Dryer to dry hair completely. Allow hair to fall to its natural part.
- Next apply Original Mineral Project Sukuroi from mishaft to ends to add texture by overuse.
- Use a Hot Tools 1 ½” Black Gold Salon Curling Iron to create a loose wave. Leave it on hair 3-4 second then release it and run the length of barrel along each wave.
- Spray Original Mineral Frizzy Logic Shine Spray to finish.
Effortless Texture
This look was created for Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2019 presentation, by Moroccanoil’s artistic director, Kevin Hughes.
Get the Look:
- Use a dime size amount of Moroccanoil Treatment on damp hair to provide a foundation for styling.
- Taking small sections of hair, use a generous amount of Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream in fingertips, and twist the hair around fingers to create a defined curl.
- Finish the look with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to keep an appearance of texture and dimension throughout the hair.
