What: Kicking off 2013 in style, 40,000 industry pros descended on Long Beach, Calif. for ISSE Long Beach, the West Coast’s biggest show.
When: Jan. 26 – 28
Highlights:
—New product launches were the name of the game, with 400 professional beauty brands on the floor. Some notables: Malibu C’s new 100 per cent vegan skin care line; Indie products, Scruples’ new styling and wet line with a fun, urban feel; Izunami’s Fume Iron, a flat iron that sucks away the fumes as it works.
—Nails, nails, nails! Spring is in the air and pastel shades topped the list for new nail colour launches. Also cropping up? Nails with texture you can feel. OPI has launched and China Glaze is launching a nail lacquer that dries to a matte, textured finish. Imagine the (nail art) possibilities!
—Want to add $$$ to your bottom line? Then, maybe spring is the time to get into waxing. Elham Jazab, a lead educator for Gigi, demonstrated a quick brow wax and said waxing is the number one way to add money in the salon. For a five to ten minute brow wax, she charges $27 in L.A.
—Walking around Long Beach and want to know if someone’s been to the show? Just look for G The Body Art Professional’s temporary glitter tattoos. A fun, classier take on the typical body art.
—And while not a product launch, this still was pretty cool! ISSE made navigating the show floor a breeze with a new app that included show times, class schedules and a map of the floor and exhibitors. A definite must-have.
