Even if they are diligent with their SPF, your clients are experiencing signs of too much fun in the sun. From at-home products to in-office procedures, we went to the skin professionals to breakdown your options to repair the damage that’s been done.
Almost all indicators that you’ve spent too much time in the sun fall under signs of “photoaging”. Defined by the Canadian Dermatology Association as a “premature aging of the skin caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation” there are several signs of photoaging you should look out for.
As a hairstylist, you’ll likely notice fine lines and deep-set wrinkles that start to appear around areas that frame your clients face (hello, crow’s feet and frown lines), but sun exposure expedites the aging process, defining those lines sooner than expected.
Dull Skin Texture
A general loss of skin tone in sun-exposed skin, is common, as well as leathery-looking and saggy skin. So while you clients might love the look of a vintage leather purse that’s definitely not what they want for their face.
Those new freckles that pop up mid-July? Not as cute as they seem. The Canadian Dermatology Association lists brown spots, freckles and spider veins on the nose, cheeks and neck as results of sun damage in the form of hyperpigmentation.
The In-Office Fix
For those of us who want quicker and more effective results, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Martie Gidon, MD, FRCPC, FAAD, offers this breakdown on skin concerns depending on your skin type.
Dr.Gidon explains that the Fraxel laser works best to help reduce the appearane of fine lines and wrinkles. The Fraxel Dual laser delivers tiny beams of laser energy into the skin eliminating old surface skin cell and stimulating collegen production while the Halo Hybrid Fracitonal Laser targets the collagen layer, bypassing the surface of the skin for speedier recovery time.
For dark spots, Dr. Gidon recommends intensed pulsed light laser therapy which consists of bright light that fades dark spots and spider veins, although there is some bruising which heals in a few days.
When it comes to this concern, Dr. Gidon suggests multiple treatments (if needed) of the OxyGeneo 3-in-1Super Facial. This treatment exfoliates dead surface skin and infuses brightening or renewing serums and increases blood flow to the skin to help absorb the serum leaving skin smoother and more radiant while helping to fade brown spots.
The At-Home Fix
Fine lines and wrinkles are one of the most common concerns and clinets can beginning the repair process with the right at-home skin-care product.
Add elasticity and smooth out your skin’s texture with a serum such as Babor ReVersive Anti-Aging Dual Serum which comes in a set of four bottles (for four weeks of treatments). Infused with the line’s Re-Youth Complex, the whole roster slows down signs of aging while adding elasticity and boosting radiance.
