Tell us about yourself and how long have you been in the hair industry.
I have been doing hair for over 12 years. I started in the Middle East when I was young and now specialize in colour transformations.
My many years in the salon and working particularly with long, dense, dark hair has helped me learn and develop my own techniques that work for all different hair types to create the results my clients and I want.
How have you built up your following on social media?
Every client is a new canvas on which to create art. They inspire me to create the most beautiful colour. I love to see other hair artists share their creations and techniques on social media.
My social media has grown organically from very humble beginnings. You need to pay attention to what is getting results, as patterns and algorithms are constantly changing on most platforms.
What has social media done for you and your career?
Social media is exciting because it has connected me with people from all over the world. I have amazing clients from many different countries who come to Vancouver.
What tips do you have for hairstylists looking to grow their social media followings?
It’s important to make your social media posts genuine and engaging. I do all my filming on my iPhone as I work in the salon. People like to see the process and they can visualize themselves being involved. Consistent posts that engage people will grow your following.
Social media has changed the hair business in many ways. It’s so easy to show your work to a worldwide audience, connect with other professionals and attract clientele. It’s an exciting, creative and constantly evolving medium that’s connected me with people from all over the world. I’d encourage all young hair artists to get involved and share their passion with the world.
Where would you be (or how would your career be different) without social media?
I have developed great relationships with companies that make products that I use every day in the salon. People trust an endorsement when they know it is sincere.
