Who: Celebrity stylist Damien Carney, colourist Kelly Hunter and stylist Marc Galati and an audience of enthusiastic hairstylists
What: A two-hour hairstyling and colour demo with 12 models featuring short looks styled with Structure products, vibrant colours created with Joico Vero K-Pak and avant garde, exaggerated updos to finish.
How: Carney started by demonstrating the versatility of shorter hair, creating one style, then working it into another with styling products. Hunter then talked about creating a plan when placing colour. She worked with panels of different colours in creating shades that would complement Carney’s cuts. Her method was placing three different colours in a varied pattern – i.e. one foil with colour A, two with B, four with C, one with B, etc..—and then placing those foils vertically on one side and horizontally on the other, for example. Galati explained the gorgeous updos, created with mini crimpers then brushed and brushed to expand the texture. The exaggerated texture was then shaped into traditional updos that looked anything but ordinary.
Highlights: Distributor Toronto Barber and Beauty Supply kicked off the celebration of 75 years in business with a cake-cutting shared with attendees after the show.
When & Where: April 15 in Toronto
