Insta-famous hairstylists Lin Pham (@bescene) and Maggie Hancock (@maggiemh) team up with Schwarzkopf Professional to inspire the next generation of hairstylists.
For hairstylists and colourists Linh Pham and Maggie Hancock, education is a big part of what they both love about being part of the beauty industry. The social media power couple have taken their skills on the road with their Live In Colour tour, which made a two-day stop in Toronto. Their class includes live demos of two techniques for creating the perfect blondes in your salon, along with business and team-building advice, social media tips and what you need to do to up your photography game. “We really want to be able to give hairstylists practical knowledge and skills that they can take back to their salons,” says Pham.
As part of the tour, Pham and Hancock decided to offer a complimentary class exclusively for students. “It’s a chance for us to give back to the industry,” says Pham. Hancock says it’s important for up-and-coming hairstylists to not set limits on their careers, and really explore the opportunities through education. “We are both exceptionally passionate about hair and we want to share that with the next generation,” she says. Students who attended the Toronto class, held at the Schwarzkopf Professional ASK Academy, participated in an intimate session that included Hancock’s signature editorial hairstyling, along with techniques that Pham uses when he’s transforming dark-haired clients into blondes.
With the declining enrollment in traditional beauty schools, classes like these may inspire a younger generation who tend to look towards social media as an education resource. Both Pham and Hancock encourage students to take every opportunity they can to learn, adding that education come from a variety of sources, apart from online. The two are looking forward to offering more classes, including more complimentary ones for students.
