This year, the International Trend Vision Awards (ITVA) from Wella Professionals was combined with HairWorld in Frankfurt, Germany, bringing together the best of the best in terms of hairstyling, colour and upcoming hair trends.
Mingling with the Tops
The first evening, Wella hosted an amazing cocktail party and it was a wonderful opportunity to mingle with fellow Canadian salon owners and finalists, including Fay Linksman, Lucy Zemba and Tiffany Bernard.
At the Saturday night dinner, we had the honour to be seated at the same table as Josh Woods and Kevin Otero, VP of Global Operations, Wella. Josh is the colour genius behind the creative team of Trend Vision images, along with Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director.
Dazzling Events
Sunday morning, we were at HairWorld to witness the impressive presentations. Hair at its most innovative! Various teams created the standout hairstyles, including Dimitry Vinokorov and Bundy Bundy.
Sunday evening, the Canadian delegation was whisked off to secret location — a centuries-old castle — where we were greeted by Wella peeps all dressed up to the nines in magnificent period costumes, and really treated like royalty. The pics say it all… An opera singer serenaded us, we were taught a traditional German dance and the night finished off with a dazzling fireworks display high above the castle’s silhouette. What a memorable evening with Wella!
New Trends
Monday, it was back to reality — well, so to speak, since we ‘do’ work in the world of beauty… — for Media Day as Eugene Souleiman presented the models from the Automn/Winter 2014 portion of the Trend Vision collection called Borderline Beauty. Come fall, watch for a “return to women looking more handsome” with sharp graphic angles in the hair and clothing that is more tailored.
The Media Day also focused on Sebastian Professional’s upcoming FW14 trends with Global Art Directors Michael Polsinelli and Shay Dempsey presenting the Totemic Collection influenced by sumo, ancient ritual symbols and Japanese geishas. New techniques include starting with a strong foundation, braiding hair into zulu and fishtail styles, and creating a chalky feeling and finish on the hair by working with dry shampoo.
