Congratulations to Canadian beauty industry veteran Frank Cairo, the founder of MC College Group, who was awarded with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in Edmonton on May 18. The medal honours outstanding Canadians who have contributed significantly to a particular region or community.
Cairo has spent his entire career improving education for those in the salon and spa industry. He owned his own salon and created an education-focused artistic team that travelled North America to teach at beauty shows before founding the first Marvel Beauty School in the early seventies. His revolutionary school, which combined instruction with practical application in classrooms that functioned like real world salons, helped to improve and expand the technical and business skills of its graduates. He has also worked on improving the quality of post secondary institutions for hairstyling and esthetics students across the country through his work with the Alberta Association of Career Colleges, the Canada Student Loan program and the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences.
