It’s that time of year again! Movember has begun. The month long awareness campaign during the month of November raises funds for prostate cancer. Male participants start with a clean shaven face and grow a moustache for 30 days, sharing the progress with and soliciting donations from friends and family. The more ridiculous the “mo,” as the moustaches are affectionately dubbed, the better.
We’ve asked Beejay Diona, a barber at Hollow Ground Barber Shop, to give us some tips for making sure your clients’ Movember ‘staches re well groomed at every stage of growth.
“Recommend a good trimmer or frequent visits to the barber or stylist,” says Diona, who suggests telling clients to start out at the same level and simply clean up the ‘stache as the month goes along.
If a “mo” starts getting unruly, Diona recommends just trimming the bottom a little, and to consider offering a wax if your clients want to get really creative with the shape. Diona notes that one big trend this year is the horseshoe, which goes right down the chin.
When the month is over, Diona says clients should trim the whole thing down, take a hot shower to open up the pores, and then shave off the rest with a blade and cream. Or go back to their stylist or barber for the royal treatment. After a month of moustache grooming, who wouldn’t deserve a refreshing shave?
