For nail inspiration that comes from the big screen, OPI co-founder and executive VP Suzi Weiss-Fischmann has partnered with Disney’s new film “Muppets Most Wanted” by creating eight new shades inspired by Kermit and his whole crew. On the brand’s ongoing creative foray into film-themed nail collections, she says, “OPI teams up with the studio to look at the storyboard about a year in advance. If we feel that the story fits with OPI then we establish a partnership and create the colors.”
This time, the collection was inspired by the character’s iconic costumes with a special focus on Weiss-Fischmann’s favourite Muppet, Miss Piggy. “She is a fashionista, she has attitude and style. She is iconic. Miss Piggy is all about fashion and beauty.”
Plus, OPI has partnered with Sarah Waite of the nail blog, Chalkboard Nails, for special edition nail art with the Muppets collection. “[We drew] inspiration from the story of the movie and how we want Miss Piggy’s nails shown—we wanted to create Miss Piggy inspired nails for anyone who wants to wear them,” says Weiss-Fischmann.
Here’s how to create two of looks from Chalkboard Nails for OPI.
Kermit’s Kollar
- Stick a hold punch protector at the base of a clean, prepped nail.
- Polish on two coats of “I Love Applause,” leaving the cuticle bare.
- Use a nail art brush to make an arc of five tiny dots midway upthe nail.
- With a thin nail art brush, draw two lines from the sticker guide to each dot, creating five triangular points.
- Fill in triangles.
- Remove the sticker carefully. Tip: Gently pul from one side of the nail to the other; do not pull up.
- Finish with top coat.
Kermit <3 Piggy
- Start with an “I Love Applause” mani and let nails dry.
- Pour out a bit of “Gaining Mole-mentum” onto a paper plate, then pick up the glitter flicks with a tweezer.
- Start placing the flecks onto the nail in a heart shape on the ring finger. Tip: Use the centreline of the nail as a guide for the centre position of the heart.
- Fill in the heart with more glitter flecks.
- Finish with top coat.
