This sleek, retro-inspired hairstyle at the Vanity Fair Oscar party is a nice change from the usual side-swept waves we’re so used to seeing, plus it gives this Girls star a youthful but sophisticated feel.

The model/actor/dater of Pacey from Dawson’s Creek wore a low braided ’do that only she can make look chic instead of country bumpkin.

Chrissy Teigen

Sleek, sexy and not over-done, the model managed to work the slicked back, textured style that’s so popular on the runways in just the right way..

Zooey Deschanel

As we mentioned before, Deschanel is bringing big curls back in a totally gorgeous way. We love that she’s ditched the retro hair for the 2014 Oscars, but we think her ruffled, floral Oscar de la Renta gown has just the right amount of vintage vibe.

WORST

Amy Adams

The hairstyle Adams switched to is actually an improvement from her first red carpet look of the night, even though it’s been done a million times before. She looks gorgeous, but we would have liked to see something a bit more daring.

Olivia Munn

We’re not sure if we love or hate this super loose, relaxed chignon. It’s got an interesting shape and has a smooth finish, but it doesn’t flatter her face shape. Plus, what is up with the boob-cage dress? It looks painfully small!

Taylor Swift

T-Swift must be struggling with how to style her new, shorter haircut. Her waves look so stiff and amateur we’re not sure what her stylist was thinking. Commit to the curls or just flat iron it!

Selena Gomez

In contrast with her super sleek, shiny roots, Gomez’s super long, limp extensions are obviously fake. She looks beautiful overall, but her hair could have been better.
