The most important red carpet hairstyles and looks from the 2014 Academy Awards.
Best Hair Accessory: Lupita Nyong’o
Nyong’o’s delicate, crystal hair band and demure blue gown made her look like royalty without being stuffy or overblown. We love how she effortlessly enhances her natural beauty with the right colour choices and minimalistic makeup.
Best Style Stealer: Jennifer Lawrence
Did anyone notice that J Law completely revamped her old Oscar looks for this year’s show? The red dress was similar to her gown from two years ago, and the backwards hanging necklace (backlace?) was reminiscent of last year’s look. Mixing her signature styles with her new, shorter ‘do—which was given some volume and pulled away from her face—created one of her strongest red carpet entrances yet.
Most Interesting Updo: Amy Adams
Adams has had multiple red carpet hits this season, so we find her Oscar hair a bit underwhelming. While from some angles, you can appreciate the vintage, classic feel her stylist with was going for, from straight on it looks a bit over-gelled. In a sea of loose curls and chignons, we’re glad she went for something somewhat different, we just wish she would have pizzazzed up her overall look,
Biggest Risk-taker: Emma Watson
Miss Watson is usually one of our red carpet favourites, and while we applaud her for avoiding the usual side swept waves and messy updos her loose, grungy pony just doesn’t seem fitting for such a formal event.
Best Curls: Zooey Deschanel
Deschanel wore voluminous, soft curls to the Vanity Fair after-party, and we think this is a vast improvement over her Golden Globes hair, which was just a touch overdone. We like that she opted for something a bit different than a retro updo. Way to shake things up, Zooey!
Prettiest Hair: Jared Leto
How is his hair so shiny and beautiful? Apart from adoring his smooth, flowing locks (we’re glad he avoided a man bun!), we were also floored by his amazing acceptance speech…and this amazing photo bomb!
