After the Edmonton ABA, we took advantage of our time out West and checked out some local salons and could not have been more impressed with the local talent! From hipster to sleek, we’re looking forward to seeing the Salon Interior Design Contessa entries from YEG.

Dierkens has 15 hairstylists, and a total of 45 staff members at ROXX, and the space includes an extensions bar, a daycare and an aesthetics area that’s perfect for hosting private parties. With large retail space Dierkens is able to offer hair product, as well as candles, fashion items, perfumes—her aim is to have the profit from her retail sales cover the cost of renting the space. Dierkens is definitely business-savvy!
Beauty Lounge
Owned by Will Halabi, who also owns Chrome in Edmonton, this downtown boutique salon is for the chic and stylish Edmontonian. Beauty Lounge is located in the historic Birk’s Building, and after extensive renovations, the salon now offers salon and spa services, with a curated collection of locally sourced products and gifts. Halabi takes great pride in his apothecary style set up, where each product has a specific position. Stylists specialize in dry cutting, and you definitely don’t want to miss the signature Vital 7 head massage.
Celebrity Hair Salon
In operation since 1969, this iconic Edmonton salon is now owned by Angie Gilroy who inherited the business from her father. One of the first Aveda salons in the area, Horst Rechelbacher taught classes in the salon’s early years. Celebrity Hair Salon has a sleek modern look, proving that you can keep on top of trends while still paying homage to the past.
Weekly Trim True
This salon has a very hip vibe: the combination of gritty concrete and old stadium seats definitely draw an edgy clientele. The owner, Craig Boa is a former employee of Tony Ricci’s and his attention to detail and colour technique is as on point as the salon’s décor.
The Cutting Room
Located in the heart of Downtown Edmonton, The Cutting Room receives rave reviews for its customer service. The Cutting Room carries a roster of L’Oréal products, they’re introducing the Neuma line, and they also have their own private label, which is sulfate- and paraben-free and not tested on animals. The esthetician on staff does microblading for fuller-looking brows, as well as some innovative work with scalp tattooing for those with very thin hair.
