Congratulations to Bx Pfeiffer from Roberts Creek, B.C., on her first-place win in our “So You Think You Can Style?” Editorial Hair contest, sponsored by Moroccanoil! We caught up with Pfeiffer to find out more about the stylist and how she created her winning editorial look.
Pfeiffer began her career in Germany more than 15 years ago. Since then, she’s established herself as a colour specialist on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia where she opened her own salon, Fade n Dye.
For this contest, Pfeiffer showcased her talent as a stylist and colourist by incorporating vintage punk and disco styling elements into her work. “I wanted to create a punk twist on the ’80s disco vibe,” she says. “While at the same time, integrating a bowl cut and a mullet in a way that is high fashion and elevated.”
To create the look, Pfeiffer used Pravana colour products to lighten her model’s hair from a level seven to a level 10—creating a fresh base for her unique blend of colours. To add an extra editorial flair to the model’s look, Pfeiffer added extensions to the back of the style for an edgy yet “shabby chic” mullet look.
Pfeiffer says she’s passionate about creating editorial looks and entering contests, which she’s been entering for the last seven years, and has been working closely with the same model and photographer. “Doing hair behind the chair is a totally different job than doing photo shoots for competitions,” she says. “You have to learn how to showcase your skills and create what the judges are looking for.”
Creating looks for competitions is also what helped her establish herself as a Pravana ChromaSilk VIVIDS specialist in Roberts Creek. Through social media she has been able to gain clients who are interested in colourful hairstyles, which she considers more exciting than the “every day” cuts she would create when she first started out.
Congratulations again to Pfeiffer, who wins a Moroccanoil tool set, one-year online education subscription and complimentary two-day class* at the Moroccanoil Academy in New York, with two-night hotel accommodations (excludes air transportation). Total prize value: $2,750 CAD courtesy of Moroccanoil! Also, a special shout-out to our second-place winner, Jessica Kurtz and third-place winner, Dustin Schumann.
