Captivated by elements of nature, Markham, Ont. Pure Self Salon N Spa salon owners Sam and Englika Wadera collaborated with Lanvain Design to channel a natural, soothing salon and spa experience for their guests. “Most Aveda salons I’ve visited incorporate cool tones into the interior design, so I wanted to do something different with warm hues and also tie in an aspect of my Indian background.” The result? From the lighting to the floor to the backsplash, a palette comprised of golds, browns and oranges features prominently throughout the salon.
Just slightly larger than 1,100 square feet, Englika opted for an open-concept layout to give the illusion of a bigger space within the elongated shape of the salon. Though modest in size, the salon offers a full array of services: cutting, styling, colour, nails, waxing and massage therapy. To create some privacy and separation between the services, Lanvain Design and the owners installed glass panels to maintain a continuous flow.
Focusing on creating a relaxing feel for their clients, Wadera opted to incorporate an additional environmental element, a waterfall at the front of the salon. “When clients arrive, they see the waterfall and they hear it when they are having their services done, reminding them of sitting by an ocean,” she explains. Sounds like a salon and spa where clients can easily relax.
