Toronto-based industry veterans Ray Civello and Lupe Voss have announced their collaboration on Color Space, an innovative new hair colour line.
The line is driven by cutting-edge science and places a unique emphasis on immersive education, while striving to deliver a new and more efficient way for salons and clients to experience colour.
“[Hairstylists] will want to know if it performs and what kind of support they’re going to get. Not only are they getting performance and support, but they are getting an education program led by Lupe Voss,” says Civello, CEO and co-founder of Color Space. “They’ll want to know if they will make more or less money, and we guarantee they’ll make more by saving money with our products.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting businesses, especially salons, Civello says creating a high performance yet cost-effective colour line was key. “Our tubes are 120ml versus the industry standard of 60ml, so our products are twice the size and we’re 30 to 50 per cent less expensive,” he says. “The larger tubes also mean less caps and fewer boxes. Our carbon footprint is also minimal as we do everything virtually. We’re good for finances and the environment.”
In terms of the products and performance, Civello and Voss worked with a leading Italian university and professor Rizzi, who is known as an authority on colour, to conduct an in-depth study. “He had so much awareness of the challenges in the hair salon, such as lighting. People build these beautiful hair salons and then neglect the lighting, but it’s the lighting that’s the most important for cutting and especially for colour since it can change the way we see colour in the hair.”
With this in mind, Civello and Voss set out to create the first-ever fully calibrated colour products. Their resources, products and educational offerings will help salon professionals overcome these challenges identified by Professor Rizzi and his team to create more predictable colour results.
According to Civello, one of Color Space’s key benefits is their microdye and its size. “It’s smaller than anything else on the market, and because of its size it penetrates the cuticle much easier and doesn’t dislodge from the cuticle, which creates longer hair colour because it’s not dislodging or fading,” he says. “Our water is filtered three times, so the quality of what goes into our tubes is amazing.”
In addition, Color Space is formulated with chia, a sealant with a conditioning quality and their freehand lightener is gum-based for easy use and a unique gliding effect. The line is a hybrid of pre-mixed and natural bases and boosters for easy customization.
The full line will be available in January 2021. For more information, visit www.colorspacehair.com.
