Congratulations to Erika Fung, the winner of Salon Magazine Community’s first ever ‘So You Think You Can Style?’ photo contest! The theme was ‘Holiday Hair,’ and Fung’s festive ’do, inspired by the texture of snowflakes, won first place by popular vote.
“I created my look by creating a side ponytail, and taking small sections to create the petals of the flower. The extra texture on the side of the petals was created by braiding weaves,” says Fung. She threw the snow in the background herself to get the shot just right. “I love to create fun, different and unique hair. My team and I do a lot of photoshoots every month, so I thought this [was] another great opportunity to show our work to the public.”
Fung’s image will be featured in an issue of Salon Magazine and Salon Lookbook. Honourable mention goes to Nicole Pede, who finished second, and Lauren Greenslaw, who finished third in the contest.
The entry period for next month’s contest will open this week. The theme is ‘Short Hair.’ Done a great cut lately? Have a creative shot from a previous competition or photo shoot? Share your image for your chance to win! Learn more about the competition now. The entry deadline is February 12!
