As June wraps up, we’ve rounded up some of the most important salon happenings.
Events
-Premiere Orlando 2014 wrapped up its three-day event, full of educational seminars, live hair shows on the main stage and appearances from celebrity hairstylists. Check out all of the main stage highlights here!
-Wella Professionals reopened its Wella World Studio, moving from is former home in Rockefeller to SoHo, one of New York’s artistic epicentres, hosting a launch party in the 11,000-square ft. loft-style space. See the new studio here.
-Stylists and salon owners celebrated 50 years of Kerastase at Suki’s South Granville location on June 8 with Suki’s Master Stylist and Kerastase Creative Artist James Valiant. Drawing on themes as diverse as disco and personal inspiration from James, models paraded a diverse selection of styles. “We’re really thrilled to be here with Suki’s to mark this milestone in the history of Kerastase,” said Angèle Charette, Education and Business Development Manager for Kerastase.
-After two years of waiting, the largest manufacturer education event, Redken Fusion 2014, was back, taking place in Montreal, Quebec on June 1. See the highlights from the event here.
Competitions
-The Canadian finalists for the Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards were chosen in Ottawa on June 23. These finalists are now off to L.A. for the North American TrendVision Awards, which will be held on July 20. See the looks from the Canadian finalists here.
-The top 15 Canadian semi-finalists in the 2014 Goldwell Color Zoom competition have been chosen. These talented Canadian hairstylists will go on to the Color Zoom finals in Germany in July. See the looks from the 15 Canadian semi-finalists!
-The Australian Hair Expo wrapped up in early June, awarding stylists and colourists in 11 categories. See the looks from the winners here.
People
-Redken founder Paula Kent Meehan passed away on June 23 surrounded by her family in her Beverly Hills home. Kent Meehan founded Redken Laboratories Inc. in 1960 and it quickly became one of the leading companies for haircare and colour innovation. Read more about the late Paula Kent Meehan here.
-Macadamia Natural Oil has announced that Jeff Flansbaum has taken over as the new Vice President of Global Operations. Flansbaum brings with him over 25 years of experience in operations and will oversee global supply chain as Macadamia continues to grow and nurture their business.
-Shauky Gulamani, President of FHI Heat, has announced their newest Global Brand Ambassador, stylist and award-winning artist Ryan Boyle. In addition to promoting FHI Heat across many media platforms, Boyle will also collaborate on shows and education.
-Unite welcomes its new Global Education Director, Marcus Allen. Louisiana-born Allen is a former salon manager of the 22,000-square ft. Urban Retreat in London and has experience managing large staff and a multi-million dollar business. With Unite he will continue to develop technical and business programs alongside the company’s founder and CEO Andrew Dale.
