#Contessa2016: On November 8, over 1,000 beauty professionals gathered at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto for the 27th annual Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards. Attendees enjoyed a spectacular stage show and celebrated the best and brightest in the industry. See the highlights here.
ITVA: More than 1,100 beauty and business professionals from around the world descended on Berlin for Wella’s International Trend Vision Awards. Presented on Sunday (November 22), competitors, arrived in town nearly a week before, prepping models for the show. Among the 33 countries participating were Canadian finalists Ilona Garson, of Ottawa’s Jet Black Hair & Studio for ColorVision and Union Salon’s Paige Ingram from Vancouver, B.C. for Young Talent. Aveda Congress: The 2015 Aveda Congress featured artistic presentations showcasing some of the brand’s most acclaimed international artists. Members of the global artistic team, along with more than 3,500 Aveda hairstylists and salon owners from more than 15 countries gathered in Minneapolis Minnesota for two days of presentations and performances that incorporated vivid colours along with innovative styling and cutting techniques. British Hairdressing Awards: The British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, took place on November 23rd at the lavish Grosvenor Hotel in London, England. Darren Ambrose, of D&J Ambrose, took home the title of Hairdresser of the Year with his beautifully blended and colourful hair collection. True to his style, the collection is chic and sophisticated while still pushing conventional boundaries.
Canadian Barber Expo: On Sunday, November 15, barbers from all over North American gathered in Mississauga, Ont., for the 2015 Canada Barber Cup. The day was full of seminars ranging from learning how to navigate the social media landscape, retailing and your way with a straight razor. Educators included social media guru Lee Resnick, Martin Truong, American Crew All-Star Matula Liounis and Eikonic House of Barbers’ Jessica Hoach. Find out more here.

In Memorium: This October, the professional salon industry lost veteran and Eufora founder Don Bewley. With more than 30 years of experience, Bewley remained one of the few hairstylists who still owned a professional manufacturing corporation. Beginning his career in New York City and training with the industry’s best, Bewley not only became a talented platform artist but also went on to own multiple salon locations, where he was dedicated to providing the very best in products and education to hairstylists. He leaves behind a legacy of serving independent salons and recognition as one the top retailing salons in North America. His creative talent and passion for the business will be missed.
Making moves: With the merger of Coty and P&G well underway, Sylvie Moreau, current executive vice-president of Wella, has
been named president of its future Coty Professional Beauty division. Having more than 20 years of experience and a proven track record at leading Wella, Moreau will step into the role in 2016, when the merger is expected to close.
