Last week, 30 women from Toronto’s Dress for Success employment programs were given total beauty makeovers thanks to the hairstylists and colourists at the Schwarzkopf Professional Academy in Toronto. Allowing the women to put their best foot forward, the makeovers helped give them a fresh start as they embark on new career paths. With Dress for Success providing the clothing, each woman was given a complete hair colour, cut and style transformation from Schwarzkopf Professional hairstylists and colourists—some of whom were also from salons in and around the Toronto area.
Despite the hectic nature of the holiday season, the hairstylists gave up their day off in favour of giving back. “We had an incredible response from hairstylists,” shared Amanda Belasco, director of marketing for Schwarzkopf Professional Canada. The partnership was a natural fit for the brand’s Million Chances initiative, which is geared to empowering women.
“As busy as the holiday season is for hairstylists, I think it is so important to make time to give back to the community wherever and whenever possible,” says Erin Deluca, technical advisor for Schwarzkopf Professional Canada. According to Deluca, this was an opportunity to “give the gift of confidence that really empowers women as they soar towards goals in the workplace.”
Whether you’re starting a new career or rebooting an old one, when it comes to job interviews it takes minutes to make an impression, but it’s not always so easy for everyone. Susan Endicott knows this first-hand, as the volunteer and programs coordinator for the Toronto chapter of Dress for Success, an organization that offers employment programs for women who are entering the workforce. “Confidence is a big part of it,” says Endicott. “Thanks to these hairstylists, who are giving their time at the Schwarzkopf Academy, this has been an incredible boost for each and every one of them.”
