Want to wear your hair naturally this summer without it frizzing up or falling flat? Lorraine McAndrew, Sassoon Academy’s Creative Director in Toronto, shares four haircuts that require little to no product or heat styling this season.
“One common theme that we see is women who want to go shorter,” says McAndrew. “Tailored bobs and disconnected crops are in high demand right now.”
1. Disheveled Texture
“Classic cutting techniques like layering and angled cutting can create a shape that is versatile. A cut that looks styled either when disheveled or polished is a great way to manage hair in the hot summer months. Clients will appreciate hair that looks fabulous whether messy or styled – this is a great choice for wavy or curly hair.”
2. Layered Beach Waves
“For the client who wants an effortless and polished look (i.e. beach waves), choose a cut that embraces natural texture. Cutting techniques like gradual layering allow waves to cascade flawlessly without using heat tools. Texturizing gels and sprays (Sebastien Texturizer line is great) or a light sea salt spray will keep hair flexible without the crunchiness for a natural looking finish.”
3. Wind-tousled Curls
For clients with naturally curly hair, straightening in the summer can be a tedious task. To create a cut for curls that is always interesting; use sawtooth cutting and geometric outlines to enhance the natural texture of the hair, creating a storm swept feel.
4. Long Crop
The quintessential cut for summer heat – a crop is stylish and easy to manage. Cutting techniques like point cutting, extreme overdirection, and scissor over comb crops are neat, stylish and easy to maintain. Longer pieces keep the cut interesting and feminine.
