CONTEST PERIOD
The Contest begins at 12:00:00 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on May 15, 2026 (the “Contest Start Date”) and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on June 15, 2026 (the “Contest Period”). The voting period runs from June 18, 2026 at 11:00:00 AM ET to June 30, 2026 at 4:59:59 PM ET (the “Voting Period”). Finalists will be announced on or about July 2, 2026 and the winner will be announced on or about July 17, 2026. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to abide by the Official Rules and warrants that their entry complies with all requirements set out herein. No purchase is necessary to enter the Contest.
WHO MAY ENTER
To enter the Contest and be eligible to win a prize, a person (each an “entrant”) must (i) be a bona fide hairstylist or licensed beauty professional, and (ii) be a legal resident of Canada who at the time of entry has reached the age of majority in the province/territory in which they reside. SCI, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their respective employees, independent contractors, retirees, representatives and volunteers (including those of SCI’s advertising and promotional agencies) and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or any person with whom they are domiciled are not eligible to enter the Contest.
HOW TO ENTER
To enter the Contest, each entrant must post their image(s) via Instagram during the Contest Period, which must comply with the entry requirements set out below (each, an “entry”).
Each entry must comply with the following requirements: Entries must be original content created by the entrant. Entries must be posted on Instagram during the Contest Period and must include the official hashtag #SYTYCSEffortlessWaves. Multiple entries are permitted per entrant, provided each entry is unique and complies with these Official Rules. Entries must remain publicly viewable throughout the Contest Period.
The entry must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of SCI, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. SCI reserves the right to examine the original source material or post in order to confirm compliance with these Official Rules. The representations and warranties provided herein are continuing representations and warranties. They must be true at all times during the Contest.
CONTEST PRIZE
There is one (1) grand prize available to be awarded (the “Prize”), consisting of a professional photoshoot experience in collaboration with Kenra, including creative direction and production support, as determined by the Producer and Sponsor.
Winner Experience Includes:
- A prep call with the Kenra team
- Flight to Edmonton the day prior to the experience
(IMPORTANT NOTE: In the event that a Nominator resides within a 400 km radius of the photoshoot location (as applicable and as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion), the Prize will not include airline travel or other transportation and no alternative prizing will be provided in lieu thereof.) - Day 1: Mood boarding and planning workshop, coaching session, practice session on model, and meet-and-greet with the model
- Day 2: Photoshoot day (3 styles on 1 model; approximately 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM), followed by a dinner
- Day 3: Departure
Additional Prize Components:
- Kenra Styling Kit (approximately 10 products, selection to be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion and subject to availability)
- Three (3) professionally edited final images (digital files)
- Behind-the-scenes (BTS) highlight reel of the experience, delivered approximately one (1) week following the photoshoot
The Prize must be accepted as awarded without transfer, assignment or substitution, except as may be required subject to availability at the sole discretion of the Producer, and is not redeemable for cash. The Prize, or components thereof, may be substituted by the Producer or Sponsor with an alternate prize of equal or greater value in their sole discretion, subject to any required regulatory approvals. The Prize is provided “as is”, without any representations, warranties or conditions whatsoever, express or implied, and the Producer expressly disclaims any and all such representations, warranties and conditions.
WINNER SELECTION
The odds of being selected to win the Prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
There is a two-part selection process:
1) Finalist Selection
If more than a reasonable number of eligible entries are received during the Contest Period, semi-finalist entries will be selected at the sole discretion of a panel of judges comprised of independent professional beauty industry experts, beauty editors and any other individuals chosen by the Producer (the “Judges”) based upon each eligible entry’s originality, creativity, technical execution, interpretation of effortless waves, overall concept, and suitability for the Contest.
2) Voting Period
All finalist entries will be posted online on or about June 18, 2026 at 11:00:00 AM ET. Individuals, including entrants, may visit https://www.salonmagazine.ca/so-you-think-you-can-style/vote/ during the Voting Period and submit a vote for any entry to be selected as the winner. Individuals may vote for more than one entry but may only vote once per email address per Contest. Voting results will not be displayed during the Voting Period.
The top entries based on voting results will advance to final judging as determined by the Producer.
3) Final Judging
The winner from the finalists will be determined by the Judges based upon the merit and quality of each entry. The Judges will determine the merit and quality of each entry based upon originality, creativity, technical execution, photography, overall concept, and suitability for the Contest. Each entry shall remain anonymous to Judges until a winner is confirmed.
The Producer may disqualify any entry for any reason whatsoever in its sole discretion. All decisions of the Judges are final, binding and non-reversible.
One (1) winning entry will be selected from the finalist entries on or about July 17, 2026.
NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION
The selected entrant will be contacted at the email address associated with their entry within three (3) business days of the Winner Announcement date by the Producer. The Producer will make two (2) attempts to contact the selected entrant. If the selected entrant cannot be contacted within three (3) business days or declines the Prize, the entrant will be disqualified and an alternate entrant will be selected from the remaining eligible entries. This process will continue until a winner is confirmed or eligible entries are exhausted.
If an entrant is determined by the Producer to have failed to comply with these Official Rules, such entrant will be disqualified.
RUNNER-UP
The top two (2) entries not selected as the winner, based upon the scoring methodology above, may receive honourable mention and be posted online at SalonMagazine.ca. Such entrants will not be notified of runner-up status.
LICENSE
By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive license to the Authorized Parties to reproduce, distribute, display, modify, and edit the entries and to create derivative works of the entries (with credit) in connection with the Contest and promotion thereof in any media now known or hereafter developed.
Entrants consent to SCI doing or omitting to do any act that would otherwise infringe their moral rights and agree to release and hold harmless the Authorized Parties from any and all claims relating to use of their entry.
All entries become the property of the Producer and shall in no case be returned.
SELECTED ENTRANT MUST, BEFORE BEING DECLARED A WINNER:
(i) correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a mathematical skill-testing question;
(ii) confirm compliance with these Official Rules and acceptance of the Prize as awarded without substitution;
(iii) release the Released Parties from any liability in connection with the Contest, participation, and/or Prize acceptance, use or misuse, within three (3) business days of notification; and
(iv) provide all required releases under “Releases” below.
Failure to meet any requirement will result in disqualification and selection of an alternate entrant. The Prize is non-transferable and the winner is solely responsible for any applicable taxes.
RELEASES
Upon SCI’s request, each entrant must provide within seven (7) calendar days a signed release confirming ownership of the entry and granting Authorized Parties rights to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute the entry for Contest purposes.
If any third-party material or persons appear in an entry, entrants must obtain all necessary releases prior to submission. If requested, entrants must provide signed releases for persons, property owners, or copyright holders within seven (7) calendar days.
Failure to provide such releases may result in disqualification.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
By entering this Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Released Parties from any liability, loss, or damage arising from participation in the Contest or acceptance, use, or misuse of the Prize.
This release survives termination of the Contest.
DISPUTES
All disputes will be resolved according to the authorized account holder of the email used to enter the Contest. Any attempt to undermine the operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law.
The Contest is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
PRIVACY/USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Personal information collected will be used for Contest administration and may be used for marketing purposes by the Producer. By entering, entrants consent to such use and disclosure in accordance with SCI’s privacy policy: https://www.salonmagazine.ca/privacy-policy/
QUEBEC RESIDENTS
Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of the Contest in Québec may be submitted to the Régie for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of the Prize may be submitted for settlement assistance only. In the event of any discrepancy between English and French versions, the English version shall prevail.
