All eyes seemed to be on what (and who) the stars were wearing at the 2017 Met Gala in New York last Sunday. With this year’s theme, Comme des Garçons, in celebration of Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo’s avant-garde brand, the gala brought out some of the year’s boldest fashion looks. Along with the fashion, we were captivated by some of the night’s hair and beauty looks. Here are the ones that caught our eyes.
Rita Ora:
Platinum blonde hair was trending on the red carpet, with celebrities like Rita Ora, Zoe Kravitz and Kylie Jenner with the pale blonde locks. What set Ora’s look apart was the headpiece consisting of intricate hair wefts (that took three days to complete!) created by César DeLeön Ramirez, global artistic director for Mizani. It’s not the first bold look created by Ramirez for the Met Gala red carpet. He was also behind Ciara’s bold metallic silver finger-waved style last year. Ora’s makeup was kept to a minimum, with a bold red lip that accented her silk ribbon Marchesa gown.
Stella Maxwell:
With a modern twist on Old Hollywood, Stella Maxwell wore a romantic updo featuring a series of twists and buns for a retro style that gave us major bridal inspo. An elegant touch to the model’s plunging white H&M gown.
Cara Delevingne:
The model/actress, who recently shaved her head for her latest movie role, dazzled from head to toe (literally!) in a bejeweled Chanel pantsuit. Her head was painted silver and adorned with crystals for a futuristic effect. To achieve this daring look, Delevingne’s makeup artist Romy Soleimani applied silver pigment to her head to resemble a pixie cut.
Rihanna:
It wouldn’t be the Met Gala without an over-the-top look from Rihanna. While the singer’s Comme des Garçons gown was the talk of the night, which was complemented by a simple topknot with side-swept bangs. Topknots were a go-to for many of the night’s stars, including Kate Hudson and Hailee Steinfeld. Rihanna’s fuchsia pink eyeshadow and highlighter and bold lip by makeup artist Lora Arellano accented the rosy tones in her avant-garde gown and helped capture the playful spirit of the night’s theme.
Taylor Hill:
Model and L’Oréal Professionnel brand ambassador Taylor Hill kept her look monochromatic with smokey burgundy eyeshadow (by makeup artist Patrick Ta) that was the perfect match to her Carolina Herrera gown.
Selena Gomez:
Continuing to lead Instagram with the largest fan following, Selena Gomez was trending at this year’s Met Gala for many reasons. The singer, who wore a whimsical Coach gown adored with sequins and stars, kept her brunette lob sleek and simple. But it was her bold pink eyeshadow that wowed us, taking her youthful look to futuristic heights.
