Pony tails aren’t low and disheveled like last season. This fall, models rocked pony tails with purpose and flair. Here are some of the best ponies spotted at Fashion Week.
High and Mighty
Sleek, futuristic ponies that sit high on the crown with thicker bands to hold them in place are edgy and fashion forward this season. Errol Douglas’ trick for getting more lift out of your tail? Use a small piece of wire (or a strong elastic band that can stand lots of tension) and finish off the ends with a hair oil, like Moroccanoil Original Treatment, for shine and polish.

Real and retro
Ponies with full bangs, a bit of volume on top and a naturally curly or wavy tail are on trendy without being fussy this fall . To create subtle volume on dry hair, try a dry shampoo, like Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo before backcombing hair using a small bristled brush at the crown suggests Sexy Hair artistic creative director Rafe Hardy.
Seen at Charlotte Ronson, Mary Katrantzou, and Anna Sui.
Tails with a twist
Ponies are anything but boring this season. Play with a deep side part with a twist for an elegant take on the classic tail, like Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director, Care and Styling, did at the Ports 1961 show. Make a low side part, sweep the hair across the forehead and over the ear, then secure the other half in a low pony tail at the nape of the neck with an elastic. To keep hair smooth and flat while styling use a spray, like Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray, to keep flyaways at bay.
