Earlier this year, Green Circle Salons invited its members to celebrate nature by entering its Earth Month competition.
For the video-based competition, salons from across North America submitted a one- to two-minute video of its stylists cutting or styling hair in a natural setting, or incorporating elements from nature into their in-salon creations. An expert panel of judges, including our publisher Laura Dunphy, helped select this year’s winners.
Zazou Hair Salon & Academy in North Vancouver took first-place, with an artistic video of the salon’s senior stylist, Shaun giving a client a fade while on the suspension bridge at Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver. The video earned the salon the grand prize—a forest of 1,500 trees planted in the salon’s honour.
Second place was also awarded to another Canadian salon. Designhouse Salon in Victoria, B.C. earned one month of free recycling collection for its video montage of Well Fed Beauty, the salon’s fundraising event that combined food, music and beauty. In addition to its extraordinary nature-inspired hair creations, the event raised $2,500 in support of planting community gardens.
Harper Salon in Los Angeles earned third place and a $200 donation to the charity of its choice, for its cheeky video promoting recycling in salons.
Congratulations to all the winners!
