Loose Waves

Elizabeth Olsen: A

Her messy waves look so natural and not “styled.” She must be taking style notes from her older sisters, but adding her polish to keep it classy yet cool.

Sandra Bullock: A+

These loose, textured waves, which have just the right amount of volume, shows that Sandra’s (or her stylist’s) red carpet instincts are chic and on trend.

Olivia Wild: C+

Her curls are a little too perfect, and the dark to light ombre is on its way out (ask Jared Leto for colour advice!). She looks fine, but we’d like to see her take a style risk. And stop starving Jason Sudeikis! He is disappearing before our eyes!

Braids

Emilia Clarke: A+

The braided bun is so in for fall, and this updo looks glamorous with her gown without being stuffy. The Mother of Dragons is on fire on the red carpet!

Jennifer Morrison: B-

This braid is somehow a bit too fussy and too messy at the same time to work with her super-modern outfit. Leave the boho braids for the summer.

Ponytails

Taylor Swift: A+

The bangs. The small, cute twists. The natural texture in the pony. It’s effortless elegance done right. We’re in love!

Abigail Breslin – D+

We know she’s probably just going through a teenage phase, but the Wednesday Adams dress and the bleach blonde extensions aren’t serving her well. This pony is fit for a Jersey Shore cast memeber at the club, not the red carpet.

Updos

Julia Roberts: A

The long tendrils may seem like a throw back from the 90’s, but we think this unkempt updo suits Julia’s effervescent personality and bright dress. We’ve missed seeing this pretty woman on the red carpet!

Keira Knightley: B

This simple, understated updo works well with her ornate dress, but it could be a bit more disheveled or interesting. We hate when stars play it safe. (But maybe we’re just jealous at how gorgeous she is…)

Best/Worst Red Carpet Students

Best: Scarlett Johansson: A+

We love Scarlett’s rockabilly inspired ‘do, spotted at The Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew. She has been switching up her styles drastically on the TIFF red carpet with fun and confidence. She’s officially our favourite pupil!

Worst: Jessica Chastain: F

Have you ever NOT seen Jessica Chastain with big curls pushed to one side and a deep side part? When you have the best Hollywood hairstylists at your beck and call, there’s just no excuse for being THIS boring. Take a risk before we fall asleep!
