As we transition into the fall season, the water vapor in the air can cause hair to expand and become frizzy. Ashley Brown, Sam Villa Ambassador and Mizani Artist shared five tips for silky smooth defined curls.
Tip 1: Use the right shampoo and deep conditioner to keep curls hydrated and moisturized. Lack of moisture can cause hair to pull moisture from the elements, creating frizz.
Tip 2: Make sure curls are completely set and dry before going outside to reduce frizz.
Tip 3: Using an ionic dryer such as the Sam Villa Professional Light Ionic Blow Dryer also helps to reduce frizz. The built-in ceramic/tourmaline ion generation creates incredible shine and reduces static and frizz, resulting in smooth, sleek finishes.
Tip 4: A light mist of hairspray can go a long way. Mizani HRM (humidity resistant mist) helps hold curls in place and prevents frizz from showing up. Lightly mist all over.
Tip 6: Keep touching to a minimum. If it is really humid outside and hair is continuously touched, fingers begin to push moisture/humidity into the hair strand which can cause it to frizz up or go limp.
Get the Look: Summer Curls
Step One: Detangle hair with Mizani 25 Miracle Milk and a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Finishing Brush.
Step Two: Starting from the bottom back, taking section by section applying Mizani True Textures Curl Enhancing Lotion and then coil each section around the handle of the brush. Once the coil is set, spray with Mizani Coco Dew.
Step Three: Repeat throughout whole head and then diffuse with a blow dryer and deep bowl diffuser. Flip head forward, diffuse; to the right, diffuse; to the left, diffuse; and then back, diffuse. Repeat this process until completely dry.
Step Four: Once dry, apply a little more Mizani Coco Dew and diffuse again.
Step Five: To complete the look, lightly scrunch 1 pump of Mizani 25 Miracle Nourishing Oil for added shine and frizz control.
Pro Tip from Brown: If some curls are a little looser than others and need some assistance. After you set on the brush, roll the curl up and use a pin curl clip to secure to the base of the scalp. Keep it pinned while you diffuse. Release once dry to get a more defined curl that matches the rest.
