The Aveda Institute Toronto held its Born to Style competition this week, awarding one lucky beauty student-to-be a full scholarship to attend the school, worth $15,000. The competition, which is also held at the Institutes in Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver, gives away one full scholarship per school, plus generous busaries for the runners-up.
Entrants, who must have no background training, must submit videos showing their talent and passion for styling; of those, five are picked to compete live and display their handiwork. The five finalists showed a couture style on a model of their choosing and then were also given an additional model to create an evening look that complemented the model and clothing.
Congratulations to Melissa Koay, who took home the grand prize! Runner-up Jessica Nguyen took second and Rufaro Madzongwe took third. Marina Castro Duarte and Pakeeza Hashemi tied for fourth.
The work was judged by president of Collega and internationally-known artist, Ray Civello, Fashion online associate editor, Paige Dzenis and Salon Magazine editor, Melissa Hill.
