The staff here at Salon Magazine often get asked “What should I wear the Contessa gala?”

The answer is: anything you want! You should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, confident and like yourself.

For those of you who may then ask “No, seriously. What’s the dress code?” we thought we’d put together a little cheat sheet based off the looks of our most stylish attendees last year.

Biggest Trend: Cocktail Chic

Most of the lovely ladies at the awards tend to wear mid-length cocktail dresses. The biggest trend last year was all over sparkle and shine – perfect for the glamourous party! However longer gowns were spotted, so feel free to use the awards as an excuse to get dressed to the nines.

Some fashionistas also chose to wear pants, so break the mould and wear something warm and stylish.

Dress for the Weather

It’s not a bad idea to wear tights and a jacket to the event. It’ll be mid-November, and you’re going to want something warm to wear on your way to and from the hotel. Try a fun blazer that you can leave on the back of your chair during the show.

For the Gents: Casual to Suited Up

Male attendees can feel comfortable in pants, a shirt and jacket. However, this is THE Canadian hairstyling event of the year, so feel free to step up your game with a bold colour choice or cool accessory.

Accessories Report: Bold is better

We know hairstylists tend to gravitate towards black, which is a pretty popular colour at the gala. Take your LBD to the next level with a bold, unique piece of jewellery or birght shoes.

And it goes without saying a great hairstyle is a must.

Other cool accessories include tattoos, a hot date and…babies! Just make sure you tuck that little guy in at home before you head out to the Contessa After Party at Brassai! This is the first year we’re having it at this chic establishment, so you won’t want to miss it!
