Tim Kuo, two-time Canadian Style Master International Contest winner, shares how winning the competition has improved his career in two short years and why entering is worth it.
1. Confidence and recognition
“I love competing, so naturally any opportunity that comes up, I would jump, and knowing the type of exposure and prize that it came with… I was sold on the Style Master International Contest! The confidence you get from being recognized and praised definitely helped me to elevate my career.”
2. Expanding your horizons
“The education I received from attending the Style Masters Gala in Europe was eye opening, especially how other stylists carry themselves while on stage and back stage. Colomer has been very kind to me with the opportunities that I have been given to work as a platform artist. The trip and the overall experience were priceless.”
3. Boosting your bottom line
“In terms of business, clients love the fact that I treat hair as more than just a 9-5 job. It’s my passion. They brag to their friends about me competing internationally and winning awards, so it has helped me build my clientele, as well as other media coverage. The exposure also allowed me to network and meet people that have been influential to my career.”
“I definitely recommend and encourage everyone to compete at least once, just to get the experience. You never know what could come from it.”
After winning the Canadian Style Master International Contest in 2011 and 2012, Tim became a platform artist with Colomer in 2011. Then, in 2012, he took home the Contessa Award for British Columbia Hairstylist of the Year.
