For so many hairstylists, makeup is the finishing touch to the collection. But for makeup artists like Rita Stirpe, it’s the whole collection.
Finding the Balance Between Trends and Classics
As a makeup artist, you have to find a balance between creating looks that are on-trend and pushing the beauty envelope while staying classic and true to what works for each individual model or client.
“I always look at runway and red-carpet trends to see what’s going to be big for the season,” says Stirpe, adding that it was the dark berry lips that were the jumping-off point for this collection.
#Twinning: Getting Creative with Models
After doing her first run in the 2015 Contessa Awards, Stirpe wanted to switch up her approach, which meant getting creative with her models.
“This year I decided to include three sets of twins in my collection, which I found was something different that nobody did, it was a different element showcasing a more natural look and a more dramatic look on each set but still in a way that complemented each other.”
Contessa 2017 Finalist, Makeup Artist of the Year
Starting in the industry in 2000, Rita Stirpe is a two-time Contessa entrant and finalist with an extensive makeup artist resumé, including freelance makeup artistry, on-screen makeup, celebrity makeup and now editorial and competition work.
The following are her favourite products to get that Contessa-winning look.
